Having joined Biolitec as an Application Specialist for more than a month, I gained significant amount of knowledge about our product. The next step was to implement what I learned, and so I conducted a workshop for proctological surgeries. Doctors who attended the workshop were:

1. Dr. Jeevan Shinde (General Surgeon) from Pune, Maharashtra.

2. Dr. Satish Sharma (Ayurvedic Surgeon) from Amritsar, Punjab.

3. Dr. Hemendra Singh (General Surgeon) and assistant Mr. Amrish from New Delhi.

The workshop was held at Harsh Hospital & Maternity Home, which is located at Adajan, Surat, owned and operated by Dr. S. N. Baser (General Surgeon). It was held on 16th February, 2020 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The fees for the workshop were INR 20,000 which would be reimbursed once the machine was purchased.

Personal Experience:

It started by taking follow-ups from doctors who were attending the workshop about their time of arrival at Surat and mode of transport. After making sure everything was as scheduled, I started packing the apparatus for the workshop, which included the Mini Leonardo 1470nm 10W machine, conical fibers, dockets and certificates. Leaving for Surat a day prior to the workshop travelling by bus, I booked a hotel near the bus stand for the night.

The bus was unusually late by an hour, and dropped me at Surat at an odd time of 11:00 pm. I found a place for having dinner nearby, and ordered a Thali (a dish comprising of a complete Indian meal). Heading to my hotel for getting a sound sleep, I hoped there would be no complexities with my booking.

Next day, I was up early, and Dr. Satish Sharma had stopped by to get ready for the workshop due at 10 am, as he had arrived early that morning by flight. Dr. Satish Sharma and I took a cab to the hospital, which was 4 kms away from my stay.

I expected to be offered breakfast at the hospital after arrival, but found out the staff served only tea. I met Dr. S. N. Baser who was in the O.T. at that time performing a laparoscopic surgery. He asked me to make the doctors comfortable, and would be joining us in a moment. All the doctors had arrived after 10 minutes of me reaching the hospital. Dr. S. N. Baser joined us an hour later, while in the meantime I interacted with the doctors, discussing the new technology of our product and served them tea. Dr. Hemendra Singh had turned up with his family, and were given a room in the hospital for the day's stay.

The workshop began with a power point presentation of our product prepared by me, which was explained by Dr. S.N. Baser to other doctors to brief them about various points before trying their hands on the machine in an actual surgery. I took off to the O.T. in the mid section of the presentation, so as to prepare the patients and set up the apparatus for the surgery. All the doctors joined me after half an hour, ready to operate. We had arranged six cases that day, 4 cases of piles, 1 of piles + fissure, and 1 of fistula. We completed 3 cases of piles before lunch, taking a short break between each case until the staff arranged another patient during which doctors discussed their vivid experiences, problems they faced during their several years of surgical practice, and how they overcame them.

After lunch, we faced much more complicated cases than expected, which prolonged the operation period. For instance, in the case of piles + fissure, the entire fissure tract had to be excised by a bare fiber as there were multiple tributaries of the same, which were not even accessible by a proctoscope. In another case, Dr. S. N. Baser performed Chivate method, which took much more time than that is required by the case. I was responsible for handling the machine during the surgeries, solving queries of doctors, changing and sterilizing fibers, and counting along the joules applied in the pile mass aloud making it easier for the surgeon to operate.

The workshop ended by 6:00 pm, along with felicitating doctors with their certificates, clicking pictures with doctors and staff members, and wishing them goodbye and good luck.

I rushed to the city bus stand as I had booked a bus for 7 pm and had a light snack in between which I had no idea I would be calling my dinner by the end of that day. I reached Vadodara earlier than I expected, and slept so tight I was almost late for office the next day
